Experienced. Professional. Polished.
About Aleigh
A generalist, I enjoy writing about a variety of topics, from food and dining to green living and gardening, women’s issues, natural beauty, and travel—and I especially love the challenge of unraveling complex topics, which I did as author of Justice at Guantanamo, co-written with rockstar attorney Kristine Huskey. I’ve been writing for American newspapers and magazines for more than 10 years, including skirt!, Charlotte, Breathe, Charleston, The Post & Courier, and more.
My Services
Writing
I've written a wide variety of service, narrative, and reported pieces on food, travel, beauty, and green living, plus hundreds of profiles. I've written features, ad campaigns, brochures, front-of-the-book items, headlines, captions, daily deal copy, restaurant reviews, personal essays, blog posts, SEO-driven content, social media copy, video scripts, and just about everything else. I'm also an experienced brand marketing writer and content marketer. I’ve written for brands including Trulia, StyleSeat, Beautorium, LivingSocial, Lowe’s Home Improvement, and more. In 2009, I collaborated with attorney Kristine Huskey on Justice at Guantanamo: One Woman's Odyssey and Her Crusade for Human Rights, a book detailing her work representing detainees at the Guantanamo Bay Detention Center, and I wrote a coffee table book about Charleston, S.C. that was released in 2014.
Editing
An accomplished editor, I launched my career with a regional business publication. Since then I spent five years as the editor for a local/regional women's magazine and a regional travel magazine. I spent several years as senior editor for the award-winning Charlotte magazine, also serving as editor-in-chief for ancillary publications, Charlotte Home + Garden and Charlotte Wedding. Under my leadership, both ancillary publications have been finalists for CRMA Awards in the General Excellence category; Charlotte Wedding won a Gold GAMMA Award for General Excellence in 2012 and a Silver Award in 2013. I am a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors, and I also serve as editor of the bimonthly membership publication, ASJA Magazine.
“Aleigh has become one of my favorite people to work with. It’s so rare in our business that you find a writer who will give you EXACTLY what you’re asking for as an editor.”
- Jamie Cole, former editor of The Progressive Farmer
