WHAT I DO
I’m a freelance content strategist, writer, editor, and digital experience pro. As a content strategist, I pair my journalism chops and content management experience with an understanding of how storytelling, technology, sales, marketing, and branding come together.
CONTENT STRATEGY
I’ve written UX microcopy for e-commerce sites, steered content migrations and CMS implementations, and produced style guidelines, taxonomies, content models, priority guides, content audits/inventories, content maps, target operating models, led content lifecycle workshops, and evaluated content operations and digital maturity. I can create workflows and processes to make your content team efficient and scalable, identify and target content gaps and opportunities, do tree testing to evaluate the organization of your content, help you through a content migration into a new CMS (or PIM or DAM), and create the snappy microcopy and style guidelines to make your digital experiences draw in users and keep them engaged.
JOURNALISM
I’ve written about local business for the Charleston Regional Business Journal, fashion for The Charlotte Observer, farming and gardening for The Progressive Farmer and Urban Farm, food, dining, and cooking for Charlotte Magazine and Zagat, green beauty and sustainable living for Breathe, interior design and home style for Charlotte Home & Garden and Charleston Home, weddings for Charlotte Wedding, travel for Where, personal essays for skirt!, parenting for Charlotte Parent, and more profiles than I can count. For almost two years, I managed the content marketing program for Trulia. I’ve also written for brands including StyleSeat, Beautorium, Living Social, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Choice Hotels, and more.
I’m a generalist and love writing about just about anything, but I’m happiest writing about a few main topics: people (I love a great profile!), sustainable/green living, gardening, food, dining, and cooking, organic beauty, women’s issues, parenting, travel, and homes/interior design. TEACHING
I taught a course on the business of freelance writing for several semesters at Central Piedmont Community College, the largest community college in the U.S. I have also given writing workshops, served on panels about freelance writing, and spoken to writing classes about what I do. (I’d love to come speak to your group! Email me to hash out the details.)
PERSONAL
I have a passion for travel and culture, food, lapidary (gemcutting!), and green beauty (proof: my old hobby blog, Indigo + Canary, was featured in Health and All You). I love reading and writing, cooking and dining, gardening, hiking, traveling, and helping other writers succeed.
