I’m a content strategist, writer, and editor. Usually not at the same time.
I began my career with a regional business newspaper in the Southeast. Since then, I’ve edited a GAMMA award-winning monthly women’s magazine with print and digital markets across the United States, co-authored a book, and written a wide variety of pieces on food, travel, beauty and green living, plus hundreds of profiles. (I believe everyone has a story to tell.) I’ve written features, ad campaigns, brochures, blog posts, front-of-the-book items, headlines, captions, daily deal copy, children’s educational programs, reviews and essays. Making a career pivot, I transitioned into the digital experience world on the UX team at Lowe’s Home Improvement. Since then I’ve gone on to stand up content strategy as the first-ever content strategist for global packaging manufacturer Sealed Air. During my tenure I led content strategy through a digital transformation that included a corporate rebrand and a multilingual content and platform migration, spearheading content lifecycle planning and governance strategies, and building a new content strategy team. I also led content strategy for the launch of Sealed Air’s enterprise-level e-commerce platform that increased conversions by 150% and boosted closed deals and momentum toward O2O revenue goals. Currently, I serve as lead content strategist for digital experience projects across industries as a consultant.
In addition, I’ve managed social media for a large nonprofit, including developing content for the organization’s web site, email and print marketing materials and social media outlets. I created and implemented the organization’s social media policy and launched its blog. Under my leadership, the organization’s social media reach doubled in just six months, and the blog I launched for the organization was featured on the front page of WordPress.com.
I’ve interviewed some amazing people, most notably Alice Waters of Chez Panisse and Eve Ensler, playwright and author of The Vagina Monologues. I’ve spent the past decade working as an editor and writer for magazines in Charleston, S.C., Savannah, Ga., and Charlotte, N.C., but I’m always on the hunt for the next freelance idea. (Have one?
